Samsung Fridge Freezers With SmartThings

Samsung's Family Hub fridge is a 389-litre fridge and 225-litre freezer. It's a big American-style model with quality temperature control and a dazzling array of smart features.

You can personalize it by removing panels to match your collection of matte black Rick Owens clothing and tie-dye Crocs.

All-Round Cooling

Separate cooling circuits for fridges with All Round Cooing help keep your food fresher. Conventional fridges have one evaporator that cools both the freezer and refrigerator compartment. This often means that the low-humidity air from your freezer is pumped into your fridge, and it could cause your food items to dry out. This can cause food to taste bland and unpleasant.

With All Round Cooling, each shelf has multiple vents which circulate cool air. This allows for the temperature more consistently, even when you open and close the refrigerator door.

Optimal Fresh zone keeps seafood and meats fresher for two times longer than in conventional refrigerators without freezing. This feature is an absolute game changer for anyone who loves cooking, but isn't keen on the hassle of defrosting frozen meat or fish.

All Round Cooling employs an All Round Cooling cooling plate at the back of the refrigerator to retain cold air and stop its loss when you open the door. It also helps to reduce the need for power defrosting to save time and money.

Samsung refrigerators feature one of the most effective ice dispensers we've tested. Its patent-pending Twist Ice Maker dispenses large cubes in a single twist and can be stored in the drawer below when not in use. This makes more space on the shelf and makes it easy to find your favourite drinks and snacks.

You can select which way your freezer and fridge open by using reversible Doors. This lets you easily integrate your fridge into the layout of your kitchen and keep your fridge tidy and neat.

Samsung's Family Hub is the central control center for your SmartThings connected home through large touchscreens on your refrigerator. It can show you a live feed of your smart doorbell. It also allows you to order groceries with an automated inventory or suggest recipes based on what's in the shelves.

Samsung refrigerators feature flexible drawers on the bottom that are an intelligent storage solution. They allow you to store taller items, such as pizza trays, and cans of drinks. They can be flipped down when not in use, and they can be folded flat to use less space. This is an excellent feature for those who are passionate about baking and cooking and have a limited fridge storage space.

FlexZone

The Samsung FlexZone side by side fridge freezer is unique in its 3-zone system, which allows you to add an additional freezer drawer or refrigerator compartment. This allows you to customize your fridge freezer to suit your needs and storage requirements. The FlexZone module lets you upgrade your fridge to a larger or smaller size by adding an extra FlexZone.

The sleek design of the refrigerator can be a perfect match for any kitchen design. Its stainless steel finish is elegant and sturdy. Plus, it comes with anti-fingerprint coating to keep the surface looking new. The fridge comes with an external water and ice dispenser to make it even more practical.

This fridge features the FlexZone bottom-right compartment that can be converted from freezer to refrigerator. This lets you keep things like ice cream, bags frozen meat, frozen vegetables or fish in the freezer. It was a great performer in our tests too however, the absence of voice control and SmartThings integration on the 21.5-inch touchscreen felt like a missed opportunity.

There's plenty of room to store food items in the refrigerator's other drawers, including two crisper drawers and a flexible middle FlexZone drawer. The latter lets you choose between five different settings for the fridge's freezer drawer depending on your preferences. These include a freeze setting that matches the freezer settings, a soft freeze setting for wine or deli trays, a meat and fish setting as well as the beverage setting for drinks, snacks and frequently accessed items.

This Samsung FlexZone side by side refrigerator is perfect for families who want to have a fridge and freezer in one. It's not as spacious than the top-of-the-line French door models, but it comes with a number of useful features and is an excellent option for those with little space in their kitchens.

Samsung Fridge Freezers are also very energy-efficient thanks to their digital inverter technology. This technology regulates the temperature inside the fridge so that it doesn't fluctuate too much and keeps your food fresher for longer. Its energy efficiency has earned it an Energy STAR certification.

SmartThings

SmartThings might not be as powerful as Alexa or Google Assistant however, you can still add more smart devices to it. Samsung's TVs, phones, tablets and fridges all come with SmartThings. It could be enough to make it worthwhile for some, particularly if you have multiple Samsung products.

The SmartThings App is well-rounded, and refined, with an "if x is true, then y" automation feature that performs well. You can set things up such as an alarm that goes off when sensors detect a flood or turning on the light when your phone determines you're at home. It can also control your refrigerator if you connect it to a smart socket, however we've had mixed results with that.

You'll need a hub to make use of SmartThings, which isn't cheap. Samsung has a range of models, including the SmartThings Station, which you can attach to your router, and uses as a nightlight. There's also a less expensive SmartThings hub dongle, which supports Z-Wave, Zigbee and Thread.

Once you've got your smart fridge, smartphone and hub connected it's easy to use. The SmartThings app lets you manage your fridge from any location and sends notifications to your phone whenever it's open or closed. You can create schedules, alter the temperature and even set reminders.

SmartThings is an early member of the Home Connectivity Alliance, which is trying to make major home appliances from a range of manufacturers interoperable. In the near future, you could control your Samsung washer/dryer, Electrolux oven, and LG TV using the same application.

While it's not as well accepted as Alexa or Google Assistant, SmartThings does have some big names on its list, including Arlo, Nest, Belkin and Lifx. It's compatible with Matter protocol which allows for accessories to be connected regardless of brand. The best option for most people is to pair Alexa and Google Assistant.

Family Hub

This fridge freezer is among the most modern you can get. It has a 21-inch touchscreen integrated into the door and a number of intelligent features. Bixby, Samsung's voice-activated assistant, allows you to access entertainment apps, make notes for family (think of it as a huge digital version of the notepad attached to the  refrigerator ) as well as check weather reports and more.

The touchscreen allows you to manage your food and recipes. You can add ingredients from an app and view the contents of your fridge with internal cameras. You can make grocery lists on the go and track foods to track the expiration date. You can also use a specific recipe app that will give you instructions as you cook.

Samsung has spent the entire year working on the Family Hub fridges based on feedback from customers. One key change is that you can now set different profiles for each member of your household so they can customize the apps and information they have access to. It's not as great as the Alexa integration into your fridge, but it's an improvement over last year's model.

Family Hub is not only an application for managing entertainment and food It also manages Samsung's SmartThings platform. It can be integrated into Matter-compatible devices, such as lights, plugs and locks, and you can use the touchscreen to control them as well.

Samsung's fridge is only a few years old, and even though it has plenty of features however, its touchscreen capabilities aren't something that many people would consider to be essential. These are more of a fun and somewhat frivolous addition than anything else.

This could be changed with the release of more software updates, but at present, these models are best for those who wish to have the most comprehensive connected refrigerator they can get. If you're not one of those, you could pick up a cheaper model without the Family Hub to save some cash. This could be worth it for you when you have a number of smart home appliances that need to be controlled by the same device, or if you simply enjoy the idea of having an appliance with a massive touchscreen.
